Vaudeville

In the 1920's Alice Uren School of Dancing had a headline grabbing Vaudeville act. They were the Six Urens
and then The Eight Urens. Melbourne based they performed acrobatic synchronised choreographed dance pieces
on the Tivoli circuit. They played to sold out shows at the Northcote Town Hall, the Camberwell Theatre,
the Ivanhoe Theatre, the Royal Theatre and they toured nationally with many other famous Vaudeville acts.
My grandmother Melba Churches who became Melba Mansfield was one of the Six and then Eight Urens.
She was a performer for 10 years. Then the stock market crashed in 1929. Go figure.
